In January 2011 we received a total of 40 calls for help with koalas and other wildlife. Nixon returns
Nixon was noticed by some local children who said his eyes “didn’t look right” so they rang Moreton Bay Koala Rescue. He was suffering from the infection known as Chlamydia which sadly is contributing to the decline of the South East Koala population. Pine Rivers Bears
Bella Bow and bub have been released back into the area they live in at the Pine Rivers Bears Football Club. They are both in good health and Mum climbed straight up the tree to feed, quite relaxed and pleased to be back home enjoying the games. .
Release Sonny Sarow
Sonny Sarow is a 4yr old male koala who was suffering from cystitis and fell out of the tree in June 2010. He was transported to AWH by our valued ambulance drivers Angie & Ernie and after treatment returned home to Warner in early October. Angie and Ernie were also there for the release.
Release Shelley-Rainbow
Shelley-Rainbow, a female koala 5-6years old was hit twice by cars on the Bruce Highway earlier this year. She spent many months rehabilitating at AWH and was finally released on the 9th October. She has a collar for radio tracking and is a part of the Griffith University tracking program.
Boland goes home
Boland, an 8-9 year old koala, weighing 6kg was rescued from Eatons Hill on the 29th May 2010 and taken to the Australian Wildlife Hospital for treatment of cystitis. He was released back into the same bush on the 28th August. He was an interesting case as he had a real hunchback, caused by scoliosis. [...]
